Rooted in Wellness Community Health Fair is an annual health and wellness event hosted by Prairie View A&M University’s College of Nursing and Wellness in Houston programs at St. James Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas on October 10, 2026 from 10am to 1pm.
The Gulf Coast Center for Precision Community Engagement Core (GC-CPEH-CEC) tabled at the health fair and surveyed community members about their environmental health concerns and interests. Additionally, Center Member, Dr. Fida Bacha provided information about her Sleep, Energetics and Bone Health study to understand the affects of sleep on bone health as well as DISCOVERY, a study to understand the causes of type II diabetes in children. Community members walked away with tote bags and school supplies, such as pencils and bookmarks, as well as information on how to get involved with the Dr. Bacha’s studies.
Other services provided at the health fair included free blood pressure checks and vaccinations as well as information on other free or reduced cost services from various health providers in Greater Houston.
