The Gulf Coast Center for Precision Environmental Health Community Engagement Core (GC-CPEH-CEC) participated in Wellness on Wheels (WoW), a health and resource fair hosted by Harris County Public Health (HCPH) several times throughout the year in various communities across Greater Houston. This event was held on Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 10am to 2pm at Sam Houston Math, Science and Technology Center High School in Houston, Texas. During the health fair, families were able to receive free health screenings, access to community resources, and health information.
CEC staff provided information about upcoming projects from Center researchers and asked for community input on which health issues and communication practices resonate with them the most. Additionally, the team gave away almost 100 coffee mugs, tote bags, frisbees, pens and stress balls to attendees.
The combined efforts of HCPH and other community partners, including GC-CPEH-CEC, resulted in the following outcomes:
- More than 800 community members were served.
- More than 1,000 backpacks and school supplies were distributed.
- Hundreds of families were connected with health, wellness, and community resources, including insurance assistance, blood pressure screenings, translation services, food assistance, immunizations and vaccinations for both people and pets, and mobile health services.
