On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Gulf Coast Center for Precision Environmental Health Community Engagement Core (GC-CPEH CEC) participated in the 2026 World Ocean Day Festival at East Beach on Galveston Island. This United Nations–recognized day celebrates and promotes the protection of our ocean.
Hosted by community partner Artist Boat, the festival brought together 23 organizations and welcomed more than 100 attendees throughout the day. The event created a vibrant, family-friendly environment where community members could connect and learn about ocean conservation and environmental stewardship.
The GC-CPEH CEC hosted an interactive booth designed to share environmental health information in engaging and accessible ways. More than 50 environmental health coloring books and beach towels were distributed to children, while adults and families received health-focused infographics on topics such as understanding a child’s risk for type 2 diabetes, blood glucose, and A1C.
In addition, the team shared information about an ongoing research study examining the relationship between sleep and bone health, and shared information on how individuals can get involved and engage further with the GC-CPEH.
